Hantu Presents: Fashion at the Cathedral

On September 18th 2010, Sheffield Cathedral hosted its first ever fashion show and it was brought to everyone by us, The Hantu Collective. We weren't alone in showcasing, we had Lois Clothing, Cherry Head, Syd & Mallory's, Imogen's Imagination and Estelle Pierce Designs all gracing the catwalk that night with a great crowd sat in the pews, cheering on all the models. In between the models and their walk we had a little surprise with our own Hantu Character costumes prancing and mocking down the catwalk, something that was personally satisfying to see as I've always wanted to see my character designs come to life.

Hosting the night via the microphone was the experienced MC Nige, ever a fixture and personality to keep the crowd on their toes, with plenty of humour and flair. Alongside the fashion we had a variety of acts playing through the night, we had Liam O' Shea and his UMSD project to open up the show as soon as the doors opened, with a fusion of sound and visual art.
We also had Sheffield based independent ice cream company, Yee Kwan, selling their Jagermeister flavoured ice cream and live art battle between a bunch of illustrators (Stars In Stripes) and a gang of graffiti artists. Angga managed to rope in dancers from Breakin Convention, a hip hop drama group and the vibrant Steel City Rockers to spin around in between the musical acts and catwalks, the crowd again being pretty receptive to their flips and head spins, it was really good to see such things in a setting such as an old cathedral.
Another Sheffield band, The Hey Sholay rocked out an awesome set of melodic indie music, the acoustics in the hall made the set all the more epic. All the beats and breaks were supplied by Chris Moore and the sound engineering courtesy of SOYO's own Alex who worked tirelessly all day with what looked like a snake pit of wiring and plugs, it seemed everything on the night was well executed which made it an amazing experience to witness after all the stressing and running around during set up. Everyone including all of our volunteers were pleased to be part of something totally unique and different in Sheffield and I for one don't know how we can top this off again, but I'm sure we'll find a way. - GEO
